When the file chooser (not WYSIWYG editor) opens, I get the error message "Unable to connect to backend".
I use Magento 2.2.2 and Porto Theme 3.0.
What can I do to solve this problem?

I see the problem seem on file and folder permission on the folder pub/media/
Please try to set permission allow writeable for all child files and folders under the path "pub/media/".
If not you can create new sub folder under "pub/media/" where stored all media files from page builder extension, set it have writeable and config the media folder path in Store configuation of the module ves page sbuilder and ves base settings.
